Newsroom: Dave Donovan, Independent Australia

David Donovan is the creator and publisher of Independent Australia, which he started in June 2010. It is now one of Australia’s most popular independent online news and opinion websites, with a strong focus on investigative journalism and breaking important national stories.

Examples include IA‘s ground-breaking Ashbygate and Jacksonville  investigations, and in 2015, IA published its first print publication, the book Ashbygate: The Plot to Destroy Australia’s Speaker, by Sydney bureau chief Ross Jones.

In 2015, David was a finalist at the MEAA Clarion  awards for his “chicken dance” interview with a Newman Government minister, which gained national attention.

Dave joined the Newsroom last semester and was very generous with his time and his encouragement of our students, even publishing some of their stories.
